    • SUPERSTAR > WHITNEY HOUSTON DEAD at 48
  • 2/20/12

Dear Eye: I just read this on the internet and thought it was so weird I had to share it with you:

Judy Garland died at the age of 47

Elvis Presley died at the age of 42

Whitney Houston died at the age of 48

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
shenlee,
thanks for posting this info.   this in just incredibly sad.  something needs to be done.
we need help in this country.   all were said to have used drugs.   and i agree with
Eye, that they all accomplished so much in such a short period of time; but i think of
how much more they could have inspired, had they lived longer.
just so very sad.   i wish i knew what to do about it, but i just don't.   but it breaks
my heart.
We have been fighting the War on Drugs since Ronald Reagan was President. Boy does that make me feel old. I just don't know what the answer is. Many people are proponents of legalizing drugs in the same manner as alcohol. I just don't know if that will cure the problem or make it worse. Though it is hard to imagine it could get much worse but I do not like to tempt fate with remarks like that. If you stop and think about it, drug addiction crosses all barriers--social, economic, racial, gender. So many families including my own have been affected by drugs. I wish I had the answer.
shenlee,
i think i heard on the news following Whitney's death that it was stated by ( i believe it was Tony Bennett - i could be wrong on who stated it)  that he believes that drugs should be legalized.
wow!!  i just totally disagree.
legalizing drugs would not make them less lethal.   and it would not make them less harmful regarding how drugs
just overtake people and then take over their lives.
they forget who they are.  they make bad choices.   they neglect  themselves and those they love.  they become careless, etc.  and the list goes on.
i just don't think it is a good idea at all.    i believe the fact that it is illegal prevents many people from beginning the use of it in the first place.
legalizing drugs would be a bad idea all around.
imo.
It was Tony Bennett.
My take on legalizing drugs is it would escalate crime. If you offered legal drugs in say the local Walgreen's, the drug addicts are going to show up to rob the place because they still aren't going to be able to afford what they need so they will steal to get it. That is just MHO.
The war on drugs doesn't work because we go after the end user---instead of the supplier. If we put every drug dealer away for a mandatory sentence of 50 years, I am pretty sure after about oh say 1000 of those types of convictions, the dealers would find another line of work. Again, just MHO.
shenlee,
exactly.   you hit the nail on the head!!   they still would
not be able to afford the drugs they want.
i don't know what Tony Bennett is thinking but i believe
he is wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong again.
i just think it puts everyone in danger in general.
yeah.  the suppliers are the ones who need to be put away.
the addict  is just that.   an addict.   a helpless ( but can be dangerous)
individual who is living in fear and can hardly help himself, let alone help
someone else.
Yes UPT I truly believe we are punishing the wrong person. The addict needs help as it truly is a physical need that they are not able to control. The supplier on the other hand is only interested in the $$$$$$$.
