Pretty much. Arnie is the Phil of that generation. Came along a little before Jack (Tiger), but while he was a great golfer, HOFer, Jack had all of the wins and accolades.

I had never really thought about Arnie being the Phil of that generation but that is absolutely true. Not to take anything away from Arnie, but Jack was obviously the bigger talent. Both gave a lot to the game of golf just as Phil and Tiger have up to now and will continue to do throughout their careers.

Are you saying that one day we'll forget all the negatives on TGC about Tiger?  Because back then there was no 24-hr.news and it was sooo different.  If somebody came along they didn't like, did the person know it the way they all tell Tiger on TGC every day,  & at every tournament?

I'm just not sure what kind of analogy you're making here.   Are you saying that one day everyone will forget all about the car-crash and ensuing disaster?   I sure hope so.   But even if he never wins another green jacket, he's still the greatest golfer.  Will they remember that?

That's just part of what this generation has to deal with. Tiger mainly. As time goes on, it will again be Tiger's golf that people remember him by. He will bounce back from his low unlike a Mike Tyson who was unable to do so.

30 years from now, everyone will remember Tiger as the greatest ever instead of the guy who could have shot his career down. Tiger has bounced back and down the line, people will draw from that as respect. You can't live your life in a perfect bubble. The most admirable quality anyone can have is what he or she does when times get tough. Those who bounce back get admired for the right reasons.

Very nicely stated. If we can ever get TGC to stop harping on the "scandal" it will help. I even noticed during Tiger's win at Bay Hill that Johnny Miller was loathe to comment when someone said something about Tiger's indiscretions. I think Johnny even thinks we have beat this horse WAY TOO LONG. And that is saying something!

I was very sad that Arnie got sick and couldn't shake Tiger's hand or give him a hug the way he used to when Tiger won his tournament.     I almost took it personally.   Was this ever rectified?  Does Arnie have good things to say about Tiger now?  Will he ever again hug him  like he did in previous tournaments?

I think Arnie's approval would go a long way in showing these other jerks how redemption works.

Arnie is at the Masters, so most likely it was.  Can always hope so. They are good friends, could have been taking care of at least by phone before now.

Oh I know Arnie thinks highly of Tiger. He said he was disappointed he couldn't be there when Tiger walked off. I do know Arnie said he made sure to talk to Tiger as soon as he could afterward. I've never heard Arnie say anything negative about Tiger. He holds him in high regards and has repeatedly said Tiger will get back. He says,"It will be tough for him to catch Jack, but if anyone can do it, Tiger can."
