    • How Has Tiger Fared on Pete Dye Designs?
  • 7/26/12
I have no idea what kind of winds will blow at Kiawah for the PGA, but I have seen Tiger play in strong wind conditions a couple of times in Australia and he has done fine. what does seem to faze him is a blustering or unpredictable wind direction. He seems to be okay when the wind direction is constant, he chooses his shot and cuts or fades his shots accordingly, however he is not so committed to his shot mentally when he is unsure of the wind. Overall, last sunday at The Open, his final round wasn't any worse than most of the other contenders ( except Ernie of course, who played beautifully) and it steadied quite well towards the end, which is a good sign. As you have been having such hot weather over there, the fairways are likely to be running well, which should help
Tiger if he plays his stinger. Another point I would like to make is regarding the flat greens. If they are really quite flat then Tiger needs to be placing his ball a lot closer to the pin than he has been doing. he has mentioned several times that he plays to sections of the green, but if the green is flat, guys will be able to putt well, and so Tiger needs to attack the pin more precisely. the courses that seem to fit tiger's eye are the courses he plays on a regular basis: torrey pines, bay hill, augusta, muirfield village. imo, the same could be said for a dye course, but the fact is, most dye courses on the pga tour are major courses the players simply don't see from year to year. a dye course was used for an lpga event some years ago now and the ladies tore it up. so to say simply because kiawah island is a pete dye course, tiger won't fare well, is unfair.

Phil is the only one I can remember complaining about a Pete Dye course. He has a problem playing them.
I cannot remember Tiger or others unhappy with Pete Dye courses. That's not to say Phil is the ONLY one.
Tiger can play any course. Like everyone he likes some courses better than others, just like The Open is his favorite Major.
