Good question. For most of the time that Allen was one of the top Champions Tour money winners, the Senior British Open was not any sort of major event. There was no compelling reason to go over there. The purses were nothing special, and it really wasn't worth the trip. Looking back at some of the winners (Brian Huggett in 1998, Christy O'Connor, Jr. in 1999 and 200, Ian Stanley in 2001, Noburo Sagai in 2002, and Pete Oakley in 2004), you can get the idea that this event did not draw the strongest fields. Clearly, it's gained more stature in the past several years, but I think it's too little too late as far as Allen's concerned.
