Just quit the personality attacks. This is a discussion board. We should not have to state our credentials. But I have lived extensively in both Europe and Asia while following several sports and basketball in particular. And Elin had lived for years in the home of a Jupiter realtor prior to meeting Tiger and it was she alone in the Woods household that for several years actively researched -- together with a group of realtors -- the local real estate market in order to decide on where they should settle. Yet you come on here and state that we “don’t know anything” about the issues. Please. Stick to giving your opinion and make a good case for it!

Didn't you tell Eye or someone else that Elin was in law school when she met Tiger and she left her studies to be with Tiger? Nevermind, the real estate deal has nothing to do with the price of tea in China.

Tiger is larger than his sport. How many sport stars were on TV as a toddler? He broke through in a sport primarily played by whites. His endorsements extended far beyond sports and his commercials for American Express showed pictures of him with his mother. His whole image evolved around so much more than him being good at golf. People wanted him to run for President and he spoke at inauguration events. The same cannot be said for Kobe.

Not only was Kobe on television as a youngster, his father played in the NBA and later in Europe. Having a segment on the Mike Douglas show does not make one a celebrity. Tiger did a segment like so many other people on those variety show and disappeared until he made a name for himself on the golf course.Mike Douglas is not exactly the Mickey Mouse Club where you instantly become a household name.

Kobe and Michael's endorsements extended beyond sports. Kobe currently has an endorsement with Turkish Airlines and Mercedes Benz. Before he caught a case he was with Nutella, Coca Cola, Mc Donalds to name a few. People want Oprah, Donald Trump and Roseanne Barr  to run for President, so what I've seen adult film stars make Presidential bids. That does not mean they would make it past the the first leg of the primaries or even the first debates.

Tiger's fame is global. If you had gone out into the streets of London, Paris, Tokyo or Beijing right before Thanksgiving 2009 and asked who Tiger Woods was, you would have received a lot of details about him and absolutely everyone would have recognized him from a picture. Basketball exists in Europe and there are leagues but it is not shown on TV period (not even the local leagues) and the same goes for many countries in Asia. I bet you that the average person on those continents would not recognize Kobe from a picture.

You are delusional and misinformed. Kobe is one of the most recognizable people on the planet. It's almost sad how uninformed you are about anything outside of golf.

Tiger was in an accident. The drama of the situation with a world famous athlete hurt in a car accident contributed to the heightened attention. For a while, all we knew was that Tiger had been in an accident and TV channels around the world followed live pictures of comings and goings from the hospital, including Elin’s mother on a gurney and taken in an ambulance. There were several 911 calls for a period of time. And a police investigation. With this backdrop, it is quite natural that media followed what happened and that people around the world were interested in all the sorted details that followed. This drama did not exist in the personal scandals of other sports stars.

I'm pretty sure Michael Jordan's father being murdered, Michael being accused of fathering children, Kobe's sexual assault case and Vanessa being taken to the hospital after fainting, then losing a baby a few months later was pretty dramatic for them.

Tiger's wife was accused of violence. Elin was present at the scene of the accident and there were rumors that she hit him. This added component of a crime by the wife did not exist for the wives of other sports stars.

No, it didn't. Lionel Richie's wife actually beat him up when she caught him in bed with another woman. She admitted it. Lionel Richies is known all around the world yet and there was no excessive media coverage.

Tiger's scandal happened in a new media era. The evolution of both social media and personal communication with text messages and taped cell phone calls contributed to why we know more about the details about Tiger’s scandal than that of MJ in his day.

More evidence that you have no idea what you are talking about. Michael Jordan's divorce was finalized in 2006. Micheal Jordan was openly dating his current fiance and other women before his divorce was finalized. Yvette was on his arm, posing with him on the red carpet while he was still married to Juanita. I'm fairly sure the internet, cell phones with text message capabilities existed in 2006. When Donald Trump was caught cheating with Marla Maples in the early 90s there was a media frenzy for a few weeks. Now go back to 1994 when OJ Simpson's wife Nicole Brown was killed. OJ was not known outside the US because he played football which was almost exclusively played in America. That case played out around the world and dominated headlines all over the world for over a year. That was before everyone had a cell phone, before text messages existed and the internet as we know it. OJ's case in 1994-1995 got more media coverage than Tiger's case in 2009-2010. When Rae Carruth killed his pregnant girlfriend in 2000 it barely got any coverage.

To the extent that the race of Tiger's wife even played a role in all of this, it could just as well have lessened the attention. Crimes against those who have it easy are less serious. (Many argue that there is still an extra hurdle rising in the establishment if you are of a certain ethnicity or background.) Few people take pity on a beautiful blond that is a member of the political and media elite. So a black wife may have received more sympathy from the general public.

What planet are you from? Everyone took pity on Elin and demonized Tiger. People are still demonizing Tiger and trying to rub the divorce in his face two years later. That is the focus of this topic. No one is going out of their way to bring down Phil. However with Tiger they followed Rachel Uchitel all the way to Australia and Dubai to catch Tiger cheating.

Every one knows Earl was cheating on Tiger's mom. Who took pity on her besides Tiger? Who took pity on Juanita Jordan when she was being publicly humiliated? Who took pity on Muhammed Ali's wives? I don't see anyone taking pity on Vanessa Bryant. Venus and Serena Williams sister was murdered and the media only mentioned as an after thought. Andy Garcia's niece was engaged to Sean Taylor and was present when he was murdered in his home during a home

This is just sad. So I will only respond to your question and personal attack:

No, I did not tell Eye that Elin was in law school. I said that she deferred acceptance to the top university for psychology studies in order to work on her English as an aupair and that had she not met Tiger she would have continued those studies. (Her stay with the Parneviks was extended because of Tiger and Jesper’s wife has been a Jupiter realtor for two decades.)

I am neither “delusional” nor “misinformed”. You have no basis for such a statement. You know nothing about which sports I follow more than golf and for how many years I have lived on different continents. We simply disagree. I am confident in my opinion on what American sport stars are known among the general European public and will happily perform a test on my next visit.

Again, the rest is just sad. BUT PLEASE QUIT THE PERSONAL ATTACKS!

Honestly, I don't care where Elin was or  what the Parneviks do. They are irrelevant. This discussion is about the Phil's treatment vs. Tiger's treatment. As usual you are trying to turn this into a topic about Elin.

I did not attack you. You  continue to make statements that are simply not true, and I called you on your  incorrect statements. If I come off as brash it is because some of your statements are offensive.   To suggest she would not receive sympathy because she is blond  and that black women would get more sympathy because they are deemed less advantaged is ignorant. Your opinions are your opinions but, they are not grounded reality. You know absolutely nothing about the dynamics of race in this country and it's not your fault you don't know any better but, you need to realize you are in no position to challenge anyone on race relations in the US.

WOW! You obviously do not know anything about my race and family history. So please do not tell what I am in a position to have an opinion about. My dad would turn in his grave if he heard someone say such things to me. This will be my last post on this board because of your attitude.

Shoot. I meant to send you an e-mail with a photo from my back deck. My yard looks beautiful as all the trees are covered with snow. But ugh. I really have decided I don't like snow. I mean I wish it would snow and then melt maybe 4 hours after it finishes. It's just a mess to travel in and you have to wear snow boots and a coat. I don't like wearing either one. Anyway----

GO TIGER!!!! SHOW NO MERCY!!!!!!!
