The Golf Channel just showed Rory's tee shot on 18 in Memphis and his reaction to it. Your assessment is right on. If slamming (or "smashing", as some have called it) is a 10, what Rory did was a 1. If pushed, I might go so far as to call it a 2. All in all, pretty tame, though. He was clearly disappointed after hitting a bad shot, but he definitely did not exhibit anything that could be characterized as anger.

You're right, as usual, VG. Having finally seen the video of Rory's drive on 18 and its aftermath, I don't see what's the big deal. I'm sure you're looking forward to this week as much as I am. I've had the good fortune to play the Olympic Club a couple of times, but this week's setup is nothing like what I've experienced.

This US Open is not going to be anything like last year at Congressional!!  This will be a true test of skill, patience, solid course management, with a little luck thrown on for good measure!!  Tiger has a good chance to be victorious on Sunday if he continues the play demonstrated at Memorial :-))))

I think you are onto something there, as in Memphis it must have been at least 62 F and McIlroy sure has a problem on his hands when the temperature reaches 62 F in San Fran, as his driver is liable to start hopping up and down and jump out of his hands again, and hop a few feet in front of him, and them back, up and down 4 times, so as to save his master from getting fined by the PGA.
