He is still playing, but will likely play less and less as time goes on. He played in just 12 events in 2011, but had some medical issues that caused his schedule to be curtailed somewhat. This year he's played in 4 of the first 6 events, and is playing this week as well, although I know he'd love to be more competitive. Hopefully he's still got some good golf left in him. He'll be 64 in July, so his expectations are tempered by the reality of the aging process.
No matter how you look at it, though, he's had a fantastic record. Best of all, he's been very generous in donating to worthwhile charities, and he's a great person.

Your brother sounds like a great guy.  Golf is unique in that it can be enjoyed to a ripe old age.   I play with a guy every Sunday, he's 82.  He is mostly cr-ap, he cheats like he-ll, but he loves it :)  LOL.

I'll pay more attention to your brothers name now I have a connection.....VERY remote connection...LOL

Oh yes.....golf is "ageless"!!  Prior to moving here from Vermont, I was amazed to learn the "young fellow" playing in the group ahead of me was 93 years young......walking the course......and shooting less than his age!!  Here in The Villages it is reported in the newspaper once a week those who match or beat their age......LOVE IT!!

PS.....it is a long list too!!

Pen:

Thankls for posting about Allen Doyle. I was wondering what happened to him. I watched him many times on champion tour. Kinda a home made swing that no one would teach today; but wow, what a great wedge game, putter, and strong competitor. I also remember the story about him donating the $1M annuity ( year long points race on Champion Tour) tro charity. It was a very inspiring story.

93!!!!!   That is amazing.   Golf is one great game.  Brings out the best and worst in people. Not only on the course but on the forums as well.  Funny, I get the distinct impression that those who make the most noise on here don't even play the game. LOL.

How often do you play Villages?

Hmmmmmm do you play?  lol

Not as much as I once did. Once a week for sure.  It's patently obvious you don't play the game.  Patently obvious you never have.

This is very true in many cases. But when someone shows they don't know the basic rules of the game it renders opinions largely invalid.
