Must confess......I can't say I knew Allen Doyle before today.  Glad to learn about his interesting career in golf.  Turning pro at 47 is remarkable and to enjoy lifting many trophies too!!!  But....hey......he's a grade of Norwich University.  Gotta be a good guy and good at all he does.

Not sure I'm following you 100%......but Norwich was the "printing capitol" of England.....plus the "chocolate capitol"......my kind of place!!  Guess when I return to the UK for another visit, I'll have to be sure to include Norwich on my itinerary......

 

Villages, unless you were very well  acquainted with  UK traditions it wouldn't mean a thing. Back in the days of mailing Valentine cards in the UK  most people would add  cute verses etc.  The envelope would be covered with fun verses and messages . Examples??

  SWALK  was always written over the bit where you gummed the envelope closed.   Sealed With A Loving Kiss

  Verses on the envelope. 

   " Postie, Postie, don't be slow,
      Be like Elvis, GO MAN GO."

  The valentines were a teen thing.  The verses were often a bit risque!   NORWICH  was one of those  teen fun things written on valentines :)   Should I reveal what the letters stood for...LOL

  

When I was cleaning out my aunt's house after her death, I came across a box of letters she had received from my uncle and also written to him during their courting!  Many of the envelopes had little "love" messages on them!!  Sooooo sweet :-)))  They were married in 1933 and shared a special love until my uncle died in 2000.  (PS They first met at age 3 when both sets of grandparents bought homes next door to one another!!.....and to top it off......my mom and aunt were sisters AND my dad and uncle were brothers!!!)

Actually, I love the "chocolate capitol" of the UK distinction best!

 

How sweet.  amazing story Villages. It was a different era when  we used to put pen to paper.  My story was about UK Valentine traditions.  I doubt if they still exist in these days of Email.

Yes......so much has been lost with the advent of email.  And the way things look, we may be in for even more loss with the USPS facing tough choices!  Our whole mode of communication has changed so.....I miss getting letters and cards and I must confess, I'm guilty too!!.....but I love the ease of paying bills on-line!

   Too true. The USPS is hurting. I think me and other Ebayers help keep them alive. 

  The topic is Statistics!!  Statistically I doubt the USPS  will be around in 10 years time. Same with newspapers.

Here is an incredible statistic.  I've never seen these numbers before.

In 2000 Tiger won over 12% of all the money that he competed for.

In the tournaments he entered the total prize money was $75.7 million.  Tiger scooped $9.1 million of that. That's 12.12%  of the purse.
