I did not say it was a scandal I said it could potentially become a scandal or maybe the better word is distraction the way Hank's book was distracting. I don't know what you've read but there are a lot of rumblings over this q&a video.

I'm not sure how he's protecting his kids when he allows the media to speculate aloud about his personality, character and integrity? The reason there is so much speculation about him is because he won't address certain issues that he should. I'm not talking about his private life. I'm talking about the character misconceptions.

It's not the format, it's the questions and set up. He could use this to his advantage but, he's not helping himself by answering soft questions. Instead the media is talking about how he did not address the Masters and the club throwing instead of Quail Hollow. Surely someone in his camp had to know that the Masters and club throwing would be fair game and there was speculation that he chose this format to avoid facing those questions from the golf beat writers.

Gammasus, you missed the point by a few miles.

Phil is not as popular as Tiger and even though he spends 20 minutes signing autographs after each round it's common sense that even Phil does not sign every autograph or he would be out there for hours and hours. None of the PGA players or professional athletes sign every autograph.

I read something a while back that talked about the security issues on the course with Tiger. I suspect that is why he spends a limited amount of time mixing with the galleries. My point is if security is what keeps him from mingling more with autograph seekers he should come out and say it and put to rest the misconception that he is a jerk to fans.

Re-reading tweets/posts regarding Tiger's extra credit assignment. No one else inspires such passion. That's why we cover him so thoroughly.

18,

we agree.  no, it's not a scandal.   :-)

and i know you are concerned about Tiger and his image.

i think most of us are.

but remember, for as long as he has been a pro golfer, this type

of journalism has followed him around.   no kidding.

there are some who have held and continue to hold the power

the pen as well as the power of the microphone who will literally

say anything.

and then there are others who are reputable.

and i'm just saying that though some of these same people,

actually have used  some of these same tactics for years,  Tiger

still became the # 1  golfer in the world no matter what they reported.

and this is waaaaaaaay before he even got married.   even

before all of the "under the bridge" stuff, etc.

Tiger is not perfect.   and his fans and the consumers who

purchased products of which he was  a spokesperson,

demonstrated to him how they felt about all of that.   i mean.

it's only natural.   some fans are gone for good.  and he has

picked up new ones.    but in general and across the board,

people still follow Tiger Woods on the golf course.   he is still

"the man".

those tactics were not successful before and they will not be

successful now.

the bottom line.  people want to see good golf.  and yes.  his

fans have already demonstrated to him that they hold him

to a certain standard.   it is their perogative as fans and it is his

perogative as to how he will respond.   and i think he has been

doing a good job.

but whatever he and Steinberg decide to do, i believe will work

to their advantage.  because when Tiger does start winning the

way he wants to (whatever that is ), the biggest number of his

fans,  will not give any of this type of reporting the time of day.

but for the record, i heard Tiger address and respond to the

club throwing incident.  and to be honest.  once you have answered,

you have answered.   many reporters know that he answered it

in living color on  the golf channel, but for those types, nothing will

ever be enough for them.   not ever.   what do you do?

you just move on.

personally, i think we all know people like that.  and unfortunately,

that is part of their personality.   no matter what you do ..... it's

never enough and it never will be.   sad.

unfortunately, the lack of research is a great hindrance in the

profession of modern journalism.   some of these journalists

won't even

take  ------    the --------time

to even google to find out the facts and the truth.

and that is laziness mixed with pitifulness..............  or something.

:-)

An that's why they (the media) is p'eed off. They may not necessarily like Tiger but they all want to be at his presser to report on it.

AMEN!  WALTER CRONKITE, PLEASE HAVE YOUR MEMORY INSTILL ITSELF IN A NEW JOURNALIST WITH A CONSCIENCE!

FUNNY STORY:  THE OTHER DAY MY BROTHER'S WIFE TOLD HIM THAT WHEN IT WAS HER TIME SHE DID NOT WANT TO BE KEPT ALIVE BY MACHINES (LEFT IN A VEGETATIVE STATE WITH A FEEDING TUBE.....JUST PULL THE PLUG).  HE GOT UP, WENT TO HER COMPUTER, UNPLUGGED IT AND PUT IT AWAY!  LOVED IT!

THE COMPUTER HAS HELPED US TREMENDOUSLY HOWEVER WE HAVE LOST THAT FACE TO FACE CONTACT WITH OUR NEIGHBORS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY.......AND, IT DIDN'T SAVE ANY TREES.....COMPANIES STILL HAVE TO MAKE A HARD COPY.

ANYWAY, BACK TO JOURNALIST.......IF ONLY!

  • 5/1/12

Exactly!

At some point,  people need to hear Tiger's side of the story on certain topics that have been one-sided. Ignoring things does nothing to change the negative attitudes people might have of Tiger.

  • 5/1/12
lol @  the computer story!!!!   funny!!!!

and u   r   correct.   less face contact with our friends and neighbors, and immediate

delivery of and responses to mail (email).   :-)

but yeah.   journalists need to do their research, and tell the truth.

and not just regarding sports.

but i always have to give props to those who are getting it right.

and there are lots of 'em.   unfortunately, it only takes a one ( or a few ) bad apples

to spoil the whole bunch.

but you know.   our Congress is supposed  to judge itself when one in their ranks is outta line.

and i  believe journalists should abide by the same rules.

i love the free press.  would never change it!!  never.

but hey.   they are not above ........  everybody else.   r  they?

:-)
