My brother, by the way, is Allen Doyle, and he enjoyed Portmarnock tremendously. On Day 1, he teamed with his good friend Jay Sigel to beat Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley in morning foursomes 2 and 1, then beat McGinley 6 and 4 in the afternoon singles. After sitting out the morning foursomes on Day 2, he was beaten by Jim Payne, 2 and 1, in singles. The US won that year, 14-10.
Two years later, at Interlachen, where the US won easily, 19-5, he won his Day 1 singles match, 1 up, over Iain Pyman, then teamed with Justin Leonard to beat Pyman and Stuart Cage, 4 and 3, before finishing with a 4 and 3 win over Dean Robertson.
What do you think the odds are that Paul, the great golf fan that he is, has never even heard of him?
