and i agree with you.

Tiger needs to work hard on dialing in with his short irons/wedges.

and he needs to work on his putting too.

and because he is somewhere "in his process" ,  (smile)  i think in

order to win the PGA, he should go there early and play that course

as many times as he can before the game starts.

he used to not have to do that, but because he is

1.  in his process

2.  the competition is more determined & prepared
(that is what many of them do now days in order to
beat the likes of Tiger and others)
p.s. -  Jack Nicklaus used to do it as well.

3.  and because he wants to win himself,

4.  i think he should go early and play that course as often as possible.

i believe he will love the results and it will just propel him inside his

own process to reach his goals.

Why, thank you, UPT, then we are in agreement all around.

I think it crucial for Tiger to show up really early at all majors.

His conservative tee shots with irons was right on.

His putting was fine.

What is wrong is that he is leaving himself too long putts.

He used to land his approach shots closer.

One answer: he has a golf course in the backyard. Go out there and put out stakes and nine iron to within 5 feet of them, and then move them, and start all over again.

He will develop a little more loft on his approach shots with time, and there will be less running away from the landing points on the green.s

yes.   he is consistently showing improvement from tourney to tourney.

but i guess we get a little impatient at times.

so yeah.  forgot about his practice facility @ home.  of course he should

practice out there as often as possible.

but to jumpstart what he is trying to accomplish, i think he should add in

going early to the PGA course to win.  and yes.   go early to the majors.

he used to be able to come back from not having played and win.

and he will be able to do that again, imo, but sometimes we all need a

little jumpstart to push us over into the zone of where we wanna be.

and i think Tiger needs to add that jumpstart to his regimen of preparation, etc.

and then on another note.

Tiger has won 3 times this year.

and is projected to move into second place in the OWGR.

I agree with you too, Doug......however, I have a further note to make.....Tiger has been very steep with his short iron swings which means he's cutting off some of the loft which would give him better results to the green.  He'll get 'em dialed in soon, I am positive!  Better wedge/short iron play.....closer to the pin....more putts falling for birdie!!

 

Hi, VG. Thanks for seeing where Tiger is at. I find Tiger has come so far that he will probably keep to his 1 WIN in 3.57 PGA win record. The majors are another story because the competition is the world's best trying to win. There are only four per year. We fans should admit, Tiger has come back with a roar. I do not consider being 3rd anything but great golf. Here, and there, a different decision or stroke and he would have been at the top. So many longer puts were absolutely on the right line and stopped one rotation short of the hole. Those sort of things get better with more experience back on tour. I would not be surprised to see him win or be at the top again in the next major. I agree with UPT that he should take the time to show up early at ALL majors. But I also agree with you, he needs more work on the short game, in swing, decision of club, because as you know, if you are between clubs, you either have to go up or down the number, and take something off or add to the swing. It is more complex than the lay person watching ever can imagine.

I'll offer my final analysis,  actually his strategy in the end wasn't all that bad and he could have won with it.

Hole 6 today was not the total reason he lost,  he had it back to -5 after that debacle, before he made bogey on 13, 14, & 15.  Pars there and then the birdie at 18 would have had him to -6 one shot off the lead.

The real reason he lost though was two fold,  his play on the par 5's was -1 and that was by the good graces of that chip in he made from the puckerbrush yesterday.   Tiger playing par 5's over four rounds at -1 isn't going to get him over the finish line in a major.   Ernie played them 3 under,  Scott played them 6 under.   When do you ever remember Tiger having that big of a gap against anyone on long holes?  Also I made the point yesterday the bogey on #1 when he airmailed the green and then hit the bad chip after that got him off to a bad start and I think contributed to his 70 on round three.   he lost the Mojo right out of the gate.
