It has been hard to watch Morning Drive this week, because of Fienstein.

Think it was yesterday he said;

 Tiger is a great player (surprise) but he will not break Jack's record (no surprise)

At least he was half right, Tiger is great and he will break Jack's record by a bunch.

Was surprised with his comments about Federer

He's right about one thing. Federer is done winning grand slams. He's way past his prime. Had Rafael Nadal not gotten upset, he would have beaten Federer in the final.

Federer has been great, but he's not even the best player of his era.

Nadal got beat early and by a much lower ranked opponent than Federer. You can't be sure that he could have beaten Federer this year.

Colt, you're pulling my plonker, right? Roger is the greatest of all time and he's not the best in his era? I think my chain is being jerked :)

CC, I respectfully disagree. How is Federer not the best player of his era if he has 17 majors and is considered by most to be the GOAT?

There will be many sad faces WHEN Tiger eclipses BOTH Jack and Sammy.

Those folks will have to at last give him his due.  These dopey analysts and sportscasters always find a way to skirt around Tiger's greatness.  But once he is perched atop BOTH charts, thet won't be able to call anyone below him "GREAT"   without acknowledging him.

I hope I am alive to witness BOTH feats.

And there are several that I want to WATCH as they CHOKE on those words....

I think Federer is the male GOAT; for his sport!

Okay, coltcub64, who in your opinion is the best tennis player of Federer's era?   Pete Sampras?     Personally, the greatest tennis player for me on the men's side was Bjorn Borg.

Now, if the yardstick is the number of majors won, then the greatest tennis player of all time is Margaret Court with 24 and secondly would be Graf with 22.        :)

Joyous: I'm not sure that we disagree on anything. I was responding to an earlier comment that Nadal would have beaten Roger in the semi.

Obviously, Nadal's second round opponent certainly was not in top 4 ranking, but that does not change the facts that Nadal lost and Roger won all his matches, We should not in any way try to minimize anyone's championship.
