Did you get a chance to watch any of the movies yesterday on Ernest Borgnine's rememberance day on TCM?
I had an opportunity to watch "Private Screenings" @ 8pm ET and learned that he was born in Connecticut. He got into acting due to a suggestion from his mother. Sadly, she did not live to see his successful movie career. He had nice things to say about Bette Davis, Spencer Tracy, Frank Sinatra, Gary Cooper,Alan Ladd and Lee Marvin.
He decided to do the tv series McHale's Navy because of an exchange he had with a delivery boy that did not recognize him but knew the names and faces of tv stars of the 1950's and 1960's like Jim Arness.
During private screening, my favorite scene from "Bad Day at Black Rock" was shown whereas Spencer Tracy's character has a fight with Ernest Borgnine's character & knocked Borgnine out cold. :)
Borgnine wanted to be remembered as an actor that made people happy and gave them something to smile about. He got his wish!!
Ref: TCM Schedule- It is that time of the year in August whereby TCM does "Summer Under the Stars". Everyday in August TCM shows the movies of a single actor. The schedule starts with John Wayne on the 1st & concludes with James Caan on the 31st.
