I’ve read 53% of Hank Haney’s The Big Miss. I heard Bob
Blitz’s radio interview with Hank (thanks Beat for the link). I agree with the “vocal”
Bob’s points. I have a few of my own.
The book is not just about golf. The book reads a lot more
like a high-end tabloid. Haney claimed many readers enjoyed reading his book. Given the
fact, majority people in this culture love to read gossips. They are dying to
find out other people’s private life. That’s why tabloids are in the big business to
make money.
Haney wrote about his opinion about Tiger based on his
privileged rights to observe Tiger and Tiger’s private life while he was
coaching Tiger. This is like firing a shotgun with a barrage of cheap shots in
the most disgusting way. Haney made his opinion like the truth. That is the
danger of Haney’s biased opinions that project a public deception on to the
one who put the trust in him. Those observations about Phil, Jack, Ian, and
others all came from Haney’s mind. At the time, Haney was a trusted friend. His
observations, opinions no matter how biased they might be (all based on his interpretations of his observations on certain events, conversations, and exchanges), unfortunately project a negative
image of Tiger.
I am big fan of Tiger. No one is perfect. Tiger deserves the rights to be project in a truthful way not someone's interpretations of what Tiger thinks, acts and reacts to things in a self-serving way.
