Many ppl view the PGA as almost another U.S. Open, but IMO some of the PGA layouts are more interesting than the U.S. Open layouts mainly because there are often more risk/reward in the PGA. (Not Always) Water is more in play. (Usually the PGA of America makes that a huge priority) and the rough is penalizing but its not flat out dead like it is at a lot of U.S. Open venues. My POV

yeah.   the PGA  is not set up to make them struggle.

and to me, the atmosphere is more .........  festive or something.

yeah, more fun because more birdies, etc.

but they still have to work hard.

Exactly and thats why I think the PGA is such an underrated major. It always finds a happy medium.

1) US Open - Bobby Jones won 4 of them and he was an amateur

2) British Open

3) Masters - Bobby Jones invented the Masters after he retired from golf

4) PGA - the PGA had a caucasians only restriction until the 1960s

What is wrong with Bobby Jones?  He did more for golf than anyone.
  • 7/22/12
I think he means they should focus less on Bobby Jones and more on the tournament at hand lol

1. Open Championship

big gap

2. US Open

even bigger gap

3. PGA Championship
4. Masters

In summary, I love the Open Championship. Love the courses, love the weather, love its history. I like the US Open because its our National Championship, its usually played on the toughest courses in the USA and because it makes the best players in the world suffer and I like watching that. Not a big fan of the PGA. Its clearly the consensus least popular major. Worst field of all the majors, worst/easiest courses and its always set up for the wining score to be double digits under par.

I don't like the PGA, but I hate the Masters. In my book, they are snobby a-holes who think they are entitled to more than others because they work at a famous golf course. You don't see that from the R&A pertaining to St. Andrews. I think Billy Payne is a d-bag for the simple fact that he won't allow women to play, and I am not even a woman, I just think its incredibly stupid, no reason for it. I also don't like the stupid TV rules, its the least televised major in terms of time that Augusta lets them televise. And last of all, I just don't get why people are in love with it. Personally, I think the Open Championship and the US Open have much more tradition.
