Big news out of the English football scene and for Peadar's team. Manchester United has signed Robin van Persie. The rich get richer, aye buddy?

Well with about 500m worth of debt,'rich' may not be the word:))...We've got great income but when its needlessly wasted on the 'privelege' of the Glazers owning us,it creates problems...Anyway,yeh some signing, other areas may need stengthening but top class player brought in in Van Persie..

not knowing much about english football, what is the feeling over there about randy lerner, who just sold his stake in the cleveland browns?

His team over in England is Aston Villa..They were probably the most boring team to watch last season, they finished pretty low but survived relegation..This season he has brought in a new team manager/coach with new ideas..He brought in 1 or 2 new players but remains to be seen long term what his plans for the team is and whether to invest heavily and push them up the table....A few seasons ago before the previous manager/coach was sacked Lerner and the manager/coach at the time, who was very popular with the fans had a disagreement and parted ways..It wasnt a popular choice with the fans obviously and his popularity which was very good when he took over dropped...

sounds to me he's had about the same success with aston villa than he's had with the browns. i guess not every team can have an ownership legacy such as the rooneys in pittsburgh, who will celebrate 80 seasons this year.

Some achievement alright..

especially because the second generation of ownership has arguably been as successful as the first, even moreso if you figure in the first 40 years of the franchise.

plus, owner dan rooney is us ambassador to ireland.

I find it hard to believe that the Glazers have sunk United into debt like that. They also own an NFL team as well, and its much of the same story there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Man U one of the highest valued sporting organizations on the planet? Right up there with the Yankees.

Anyone see the USA vs. Mexico at the Azteca? First win in Mexico ever for the USA. That was the worst I have seen the USA play in a long time and the worst squad we have put out there in a long time, but we somehow beat a very close to full strength Mexico squad, weird how stuff like that happens.

I think its number 1 in the highest value but the Glazers used all borrowed money when taking over Man Utd which now comes under the club's name, thats where the problem lies..Instead of having lower prices on everything for fans, ticket prices, merchandise etc and money invested in the team it goes to repaying bank loans and interest..
