I was really hoping that Olesen would birdie the last hole to make the Tiger pairing. (No offense, Lawrie, but -- in comparison -- you are a little stodgy...) Perhaps Olesen is not that known in America yet, but this Dane is really a rising European star. At only 22, he is already a winner on the European Tour (and has been runner-up at least a handful of times). This is only his second major and he is playing Tiger in a weekend pairing.

(finding no other way to deal with this tragic weekend -- also the one-year anniversary of the shooting in Norway that killed 77 people, mostly youth -- than to shelter my children from the news and focus on a promising youth playing his idol...)

Yup. I had two super sleepers going into the Open. I said of the guys outside the top 50, Harris English and Thorbjorn Olesen were the two guys that I could see getting into contention. Both made the cut and one of them is in fourth place. Olesen might be young and unknown since he plays on the European Tour, but this guy is going to be a stalwart in the top 20 of the OWGR for many years to come. He can really play.

OC, absolutely agree with both paragraphs in your post!

And, besides, that Dane is a cute little guy.   LOL
