The 2012 British Open will be held at Royal Lytham and St Anne's.   When last contested there in 2001 Tiger as the defending British Open champ shot 283 (-1),   Duval won the tournament with a 274 (-10).

The course is not overly long,  but places a premium at shotmaking according to the writeup's.   They make the claim that the course is shorter, so it does not favor the longer hitters.   I checked the yardage and it's 7120 Yards,  Olympic by comparison played to the same yardage 7120.   There are only 2 Par 5's.

I give Tiger a good chance  :-)

ironic this past weekend that while tiger was playing the us open, duval was a commentator on usopen.com.

I checked the course layout yesterday and thought I saw 3 par 5's so a 71 total?????  Tiger is much better now with his accuracy and the fairways are a little wider so not many will run into the fringe as they did at the US Open.  But the place has a ton of bunkers.  Everywhere!!!!  The wind is the issue but Tiger's stinger might be well suited to combat that.  The ball will run up to the green if you place it right in the fairway.  It is a shotmaker's course for sure.

Tiger will get one this year.  We have this week off then 2 weeks in a row of Tiger.  Then to the Open.  Those will be long nights.  tee off times start at like 1:00 am and Tiger has been getting lots of early tee times.  LOL

ESPN usually covers this tournament starting at about 3 am.  But the Europeantour.com will have radio coverage as well.  AND we have several English members here who have SKY SPORTS and they can update us.

go Tiger!!!

I like his chances to contend in the Open. He played the par 5s poorly last week, but he rocked them at the Memorial.

What keeps me at ease is despite the terrible start he had yesterday, he played the remaining 12 holes at -3 par. If I were to make a realistic arm chair statement, his overall wedge game including short game need improvement; otherwise he won't have much fun at Royal Lytham.

and he has a month to work on that but at the Open, the ball is bounced up to the green.  Will be interesting.  Of course no one is giving him a chance after his T 21 this past week.  That's ok.  Furyk and McDowell didn't fare well either.

It is a par 70 according to the www.royallytham.org/scorecard.  Only holes #7 and #11 are par 5s.

I was looking at the men's and not the championship totals.  Sry :)

Yeah we won't miss a shot of Tiger's at Royal St. Lytham's. ESPN usually picks up the coverage before Tiger tees off.

I agree the short game around the green will be important.  I think he will have more opportunities to use 3 wood at the Open,  it was a big component of his success at the memorial.   He hit a lot of 2 and 4 irons off the tee at Olympic,  that isn't his game.
