I was lucky enough and lived close enough to attend the US Open on Thursday. Spent a great day in San Francisco on Wednesday and took BART out to the course early in the morning. I was not alone; lots of fans were out early for Tiger's morning tee time. The shuttles to the course made good time and the tournament seemed to be run very well. The merchandise tent was full of people looking for a US Open jacket, etc. The food concession tents served some really great food, including bbq, fish tacos, burgers, peanut butter sandwiches and of course hot dogs and beer. Could not have asked for better weather. There was a couple of really steep hills to climb, but the course was gallery friendly. I usually bring home a rock from the grounds but there was not one to be found. So i found a piece of tarmac for a souvenier! Tiger finished on the 8th and there was a huge hillside that as he approached, had filled up with thousands of fans. He got a huge welcome! Now, as i was walking along a fairway, someone tapped me on my hat; a white one like Tiger wears. I looked up and wondered if i knew this women. She said she noticed my hat and wanted to give me a pin to support her son. I immediately recognized Tiger's Mom. !! We spoke briefly and off she went to follow Tiger. This was so special and i will cherish the pin. She was very pretty, and what a great surprise............Before i close, i don't know if anyone would agree with me, and this has nothing to do with Tiger's score, but do we really enjoy a tournament where there seems to be nothing but bogeys? It can't be so much fun for a golfer and i personally would enjoy more birdies and surely a few eagles, i don't know how many there were this week. Remember when they took the roars out of Augusta? and they seemed to have put some back in. I think this Mike guy from the USGA could give us all some relief.......But all said and done, TIGER WOODS looked wonderful, and it was great to see him play golf. I know he will continue to compete and the 15th may just be in July.
