about golf without throwing clubs and cussing.

Tiger found half of that scenario and dominated golf.

he had the best course management in the heat of

a tournament and it helped him to win golf

tournaments.  upwards of 90's world wide.   not

to mention the 14 majors.

fist pumping and roaring and all of that is wonderful

when Tiger hits a shot he loves.  i love to see him

do it.

but a serious lack of course management is not good.

and can also be dangerous.   and people please

think about what you are saying.  throwing clubs is

a bad habit.

the amateurs mimic the pros.   a pro might be as careful

as he can most of the time in throwing clubs and someone

can still get hurt.    but for amateurs, i guaranteee you,

u don't want amateurs picking up that habit and thinking

it is ok.

IT CAN BE DANGEROUS.   AND IF YOU HAVE

NEVER PLAYED GOLF, YOU CAN'T SPEAK TO IT,

BECAUSE YOU JUST DON'T KNOW.

GETTING HIT WITH A GOLF CLUB HURTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one of my best friends got hit in the head with one and

it was an accident  and myself and another friend were

on the range when another accident happened and

missed getting hit by a flying club, also an accident.

NO.  IT IS NOT OKAY TO THROW CLUBS.  I DON'T

CARE WHO IS THROWING THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and on a golf course where spectators are present.........

are you kidding me????????   COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyway.  yall like to do research.

someone said Tiger has always acted this way and won

tourneys.   WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

before Tiger started dominating golf,  he found and

practiced SUPERB COURSE MANAGEMENT.

he stopped throwing clubs, etc.    he did on

occasion still beat the ground with clubs, but even

that is not pleasant to watch (from any golfer) and

imo, is kinda scary!!!!!!!

please don't preach to me.   i am one of Tiger's

biggest fans.   Yall know that.   but right is right

and wrong is wrong.    COME ON!!!!!!!!

now, the cussing.   lol!!!   he never quite mastered

that.   :-)     but i hope he will one day.

TIGER WOODS IS THE BEST!

P.S. -    if Tiger gets disciplined, i hope he gets fined.  if

he get suspension, i'm not watching golf til he comes back!!!!!!!!!!!

and i believe the same holds true for many.    COME ON !!!!

overpar  already posted stats showing the final round ratings were

the lowest since , i think , 2004.

Tiger knows better.   he apologized.  he will do better.

but we all need to understand that throwing clubs is serious and

can be dangerous.

p.s. squared.  ----   for those of you who want to tell me, he is not

the only one.   agreed.   so if they are gonna get Tiger, they need

to get all of them.   maybe the PGA tour can allow fans to call in

and report club throwers, the way the allow people to call in and

report golfers who break the rules.   maybe that way, they can

catch more of them and not only Tiger.

so if you are your friends are at tournaments.   and you see golfers

throwing clubs, etc., tell everyone you know to call in and

report it.   and if you are watching it on tv, call in as well.

ok.   please respond nicely.  and be nice to one another on this

thread.  thanking you in advance.

case in point.

Bubba Watson had horrible course management.

so bad that his caddie was gonna stop

working for.  he would still be his friend but not

caddie for him.    his wife got on him about.

when Bubba reeled it in, he started winning

tournaments.

you have to have a cool head when you hit a

bad shot so that you can figure out your next

best play.

Phil on that 4th hole yesterday.  poor course

management.   he should have just gone back

to the tee.   anyway.  he triple bogied.

Regarding fining Tiger for the club incident, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the PGA controls the Masters, much like the USGA controls the US Open, Augusta controls the Masters. So the fine, if that's what they choose to do,  would it not have to come from Augusta?
  • 4/9/12
You have a good point.  And my feeling is if Tiger gets penalized in anyway by either Augusta or the PGA they also need to penalize Stenson who had a tantrum when he hit a bad shot and pummeled the ground with his club several times and Graeme McDowell who also threw his club.

UPT,

Props to you for your great devotion but I have just a different opinion than yours...Tiger has in fact thrown clubs and won...I watched on T.V. and saw it happen...when I refer to thrown clubs I am referring to droping the club in his down swing...I have yet to see him take a club and throw it 50 feet...saw him kick it...saw him him hit the ground with it, saw him look at it in disgust, saw him curse it, but not throw it for a distance...he lets go of it in a bad shot...

I know you will agree that other golfers do it as well case in point, hunter mahan in the final round of the masters on sunday, was mad and let go of the club in his back swing, etc, etc, //

Is it right?  that remains debatable....

Sports in General:  I believe it is the culture of the sport (frustration that is exhibited sometimes uncontrollable):  sure not all athletes express their frustration the same nor do we eat pizza the same ( i pick the cheese off first)  but I think fans, tv., broadcasters, etc., hype it up only to get a reaction...

I played baseball in college and believe me the behavior is atrocious, throwing bats down, thowing hats, cussing, and the spectators saw and heard...my coach never disciplined us...I used that anger to try harder

Lets put golf dropping, cussing, or kicking clubs in a movie/tv  rating....Come on now....PG at best...Heck Dance Moms on Lifetime Channel is probably PG 13..If Tiger had some Tattoos and didn't display any outburst other than an arm full of tattoos how would people view him?  You see people only look as far as their eyes/ears will allow them to.  I don't get it when all other sports, football, baseball, basketball, the athletes can cuss, throw equipment, and fans don't get upset, but in Golf (A White Man's Gentleman Sport) when a pro golfer gets a little fired up he looks shameful...for me it doesn't match...

Just my opinion,

Blessed

2005,  :-)

not throwing, but dropping the clubs, i think kinda started

with Freddy and VJ.   but that is kind of new, ( 4 or 5 yrs)

and both Freddie and VJ  had similar back injuries.  and

i am inclined to believe that is why they started doing that.

to try and compensate for their injuries and the pain

associated with it.   i believe both of them have recently

seen the same  doctor in Germany who helped them both

with their back injuries and pain.  i like both players and i

am glad they are better.

but throwing clubs?

i thought of another instance.   a few years back,

my best friend was playing golf with a couple of buddies.

one of them got angry about a bad shot and slammed down

his driver.   the third guy, (not my friend)  told him never to

do that again.  and he wanted to know why because, he said,

to third guy, you do the same thing yourself.   but he told him.

not anymore.   the reason why?    a guy he knew had done

the same thing around that same time.   slammed down his

graphite driver.   the driver broke.  part of it bounced back

up and stabbed the guy in the neck.   he went on to explain

that the guy was lucky that it was not a main artery or his aorta.

he lived.   but it was a bad situation.    that is why  i say that

the golfers themselves can also be injured.   and others can be injured too.

it is not good.

VJ  and Couples dealing with severe back pain, i believe

may have been trying to figure out a way to play golf with

their injuries.   do they still do it?  i don't know.

but for other pros to mimic it, (unless they also have injuries)

i just don't like it.   and definitely  amateurs should not develop

these bad habits.

however.

Tiger Woods is still my fave !!!!

GO TIGER !!!!

Bubba and Tiger are two different people with two different experiences.
I read somewhere that a person's personality starts to set  when they are around two years old and there are many factors that play a part in how we develop.
Bubba never took golf lessons. He taught himself how to play with a wiffle ball bat. Yesterday during his speech he said he never got this far in his dreams. This is a guy who is just thrilled to win a major. Sergio has resigned himself to the idea that he will NEVER win a major because he's not good enough.
Tiger on the other hand has been playing golf since he could stand up. He grew up all his life expecting to win multiple majors, expecting to break records, to transcend the sport. He does not have the same mindset as other golfers because he's not just trying to win, he's trying to make history. It's no surprise to me that Tiger has tunnel vision, it takes an incredible amount of focus and dedication to reach the level he's reached.

Can he be passionate without the club throwing? I don't know if TIGER can be passionate without throwing a tantrum. Can someone else be passionate without throwing a tantrum? Sure, if that is their disposition. That's not Tiger's disposition and I don't know why people expect him to change. There is more at stake for him than the average player on the PGA tour.
Tiger is 36 years old. He's already set in his ways. He didn't become the man that he is overnight and he's certainly not going to change overnight. His environment, nurturing, and experience made him the man that he is for better or worse.

18,   :-)

you are right.  no it doesn't happen overnight.

but for Tiger Woods it has happened before.

i don't know what he did in college, etc.

but on the pga tour, he did not start

dominating in golf until he learned good course

management.   i did not say winning.  i said

dominating.

when a person's mind is not clear,  and anger

is over riding clarity of mind, people are liable

to do things they regret.   and that goes for all

people.  not just Tiger.

i am curious.  did you read my entire post?

i think we might not be on the same page.

i would like to know if you read the entire post.

thanks.

You are right about them not controlling The Masters, but because they recognize it as an official part of the Tour's schedule, and it is an official money event that counts on the PGA Tour and it awards FedEx Cup points, the Tour still has the right to fine him.

CC,

thanks for answering gppg's question.

i did not know the answer.
