While her technical level was not where it needs to be, I think we saw a far more mature Rachel Flatt at Skate America.  She was far more emotive and had a more mature quality than I think she has ever had.  Again, the technical elements were off the mark but I think she has improved on the artistic side.  I think she has also blossomed into a very attractive young lady.

Thoughts?

I was there in Spokane at Rachel's first Senior Nationals in Spokane, 2008.  She did not then, and even less now, look like an athlete, but she sure knew how to move: light and graceful, good speed and power as well, rock solid fundamentals. I guess if your technique is pure, it will feel effortless and you don't need a lean muscular body to power through.  All along there has been good showmanship and stage presence. A comeback would be help get Nationals back to the feverish edge of seat intensity of years gone by in the Ladies division.

I have a good feeling that this year's nationals will provide plenty of intensity. We have a solid and what should prove to be, a deep field of suitors for our 2 spots in the ladies event.

I pull for good skating with no particular favorites at the USA National Championships. My goal is the same as it has been for the last few years, that whoever we send on will earn us (back) our 3 spots at Worlds/Olympics.

The USFSA should never have given Rachael yet another SA or a GP event at all to tell you the truth..  She was so slow and noticeably out of shape that it was hard to watch.  Rachael even said that skating is not her number one priority anymore so why was she even there? I think after those performances we won't see Rachael getting any international assignments next season. Give the spot to some other deserving skater who will at least look like she belongs with the other Ladies.

I agree totally !!!

I totally agree.  Terribly out of shape, horrific dresses and has (on several documented occasions) reported that skating is no longer a top priority ---

Therefore,  let's give her what she wants...no more GP assignments.  She seems way more interested in the celebrity aspect of the sport than being an athlete.

Goodbye, RF!!!
