hi all, here's a new rendition of the cabin/railway painting; no knife, brushes used this time; still acrylic.
got rid of that big, bothersome -albeit 'real'- puff in the sky and went for an all-over 'cloudiness', as well as 'cropping' the sky; tried to adjust the detail on the rails, tried to unflatten the foreground; gave more attention to the cabin;
(f.y.i. it's friday already!!!!! raining here for days. i think i need new earrings.)
there won't be a part three to this little play, but i like like how this turned out, incorporating most of your suggestions, (except for the steam engine, tina, - it just wasn't there for me.)
i have a little book on knife painting, will do some studies from that before my next attempt.
thanks, all, for the new-to-come critiques. i will study them for my next attempts at subjects similar to this. -v-

Wow Mytyme,
I keep clicking back and forth between your two versions and am struck by the vast improvement you've made ! I think cropping the sky was brilliant - it now feels like I'm right in the location. The trees and foliage are so much more believable now as well and the colour of the whole thing is excellent. I liked your rails in the first version and still like them in the second one. This is an awesome painting ! Well done and congrats to you for taking advice and working with it. A good lesson to me :) You should be soooo pleased with this !
Maddy :)
