Regarding Ed Sherman's column about Gumbel and NFL job. They hired him knowing he is a big name, and is a smart guy who will pick up the skills as he goes. His brother has been doing it for 10 years, and still messes up on yardage.
I guarantee, no one is watching for the announcing to be perfect.
Collinsworth is as good as they come, and Gumbel is doing great (not over-the-top overreacting like a lot of the guys do...) My buddies and I laugh at how much the press is scrutinizing Gumbel-- I guess the NFL is loving the publicity too.
