Oh man, this could've been The Round. Or at least Half The Round, since i only had time for 9 today. Through 6 holes I'm 2 under, with just one bad shot, a sod lifter approach on #1. I even had an 18 ft eagle putt on line on #5, but left it short, which seems sinful but there's a big drop off and I could've easily left myself with a 10 footer up hill, so I was happy with a tap in birdie, my 3rd in 4 holes. Hit the beach on 7 and 8 and couldn't save, so I'm going into #9 even. It's a tough hole, a bit of a dog leg and very steep uphill par 4. I always seem to mis-hit right, into the woods. 1. Pulled out my driver, it's been working all round, and it looks like I'm going skim the tree line on the right and will have an 80 yard chip onto the 2 tiered green. But it tailed and solidly caught the very last tree sitting out by the fairway, and the ball came 50 yards back and across the fairway. 2. 185 out, still up hill, pin protected by a trap. Hooked a hybrid 2 iron into the woods, it popped out into a bunker under the green, a lucky break. I can still get up and down. 3. Picked the ball clean off the sand, sailed over the flag, next to a tree up the hill past the green. 4. A difficult downhill chip from here, got to stop the ball on the top tier, made much more difficult by having to put my butt against the tree and taking a very tight swing. I flub it, and it trickles partway down the hill, short of the green. 5. Still trying for the touch to keep it on upper tier, I skulled it past the pin, down to the lower tier, rolling off the side of the green. 6. Popped a wedge up onto the right tier, about 8-10 feet. 7. Rolled it by the right edge. 8. Gimme snowman. From 2 under to 4 over on the last 3 holes. I'm a joke. Or Gus Johnson. |
