A Dissertation Upon Gross Big
By Harry T. Cook 11/06/09
Members of Congress hell-bent to interfere with the exercise of reproductive rights would as soon applaud a Barack Obama speech as permit anything in the health care reform apparatus to allow a single dime of public money to be used in the termination of a pregnancy. OK, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and acknowledge that theirs may be a moral stance where respect for life is concerned. However, I have my own moral respect-for-life stance on the disbursement of public monies, to wit: Not one cent of my federal taxes may be used to kill Afghanis, Pakistanis, Iraqis, Iranians or any other populace upon which the United States has decided, or might at some later time decide, to make war. Furthermore, I want the right to withhold my tax dollars that would be used, as they are now being used, to prop up self-troubled banks, the public-be-damned executives of which cart away wheelbarrows full of cash for no other reason than that they can. I want my tax dollars used in a redistribution of resources to those who can't even dream of owning wheelbarrows. I do not want the tax dollars I pay to subsidize Big Agriculture, or Big Oil, or Big Coal, or Big Insurance or Big Business. I'm into those behemoths for plenty already. My moral stance mandates that the tax dollars I remit to Big Government as the price of my membership in it shall be used:
- To relieve abject poverty in the inner cities and rural wastelands of America where too many children go without adequate health care, nourishment and housing;
- To redeem the ruination of the nation's public schools by transforming its buildings from third-rate minimum security prisons into decent learning venues;
- To raise starting teachers' salaries to a level competitive with those of first-year lawyers and Wall Street hotshots to make teaching more attractive to the best and the brightest;
- To underwrite a solid liberal arts education to be made mandatory for all future public school teachers, with no less than B grades in at least one non-English language, in English, American and world literature and history and at least one class in comparative religion;
- To provide for year-round classes in all public schools, with ample seasonal recesses, and with an emphasis on hard-core academics;
- To mount a thorough and aggressive study of the U.S. criminal justice and penal systems to find out why we convict and incarcerate so many people, too-high a number of whom are African Americans; and to make necessary prison time rehabilitative rather than merely punitive;
- To undertake a major public works program (yes, government-run) to upgrade the nation's rail system from its 19th century state of dilapidation, and to make major repairs and updates on America's roads, bridges and electric grid, thus furnishing work to the millions who lost their jobs while the big bankers counted their loot . . . and before they can count some more (click here to see Paul Krugman's New York Times column of 11/2/09);
- To fund major research in, and development of, clean production of renewable energy using nuclear, solar and wind power so as to bring an end to the United States' economic and ecologically ruinous reliance on coal and petroleum; and
- To lay a firm and lasting financial foundation under a comprehensive health care insurance program for all Americans modeled on Medicare.
Of course, I am living in the wrong country at the wrong time if I wish to realize much at all of what I have proposed. Despite the election of Barack Obama just a year ago, a strong Democratic majority in the House of Representatives and 60 Democratic votes in the Senate, it seems clearer every day that there is insufficient political horsepower to get it done. Why? Because nearly every member of Congress is beholden to one lobby or another. Lobbyists say "Jump!" and politicians ask "How high?" The singular goal of politicians is to get reelected. Greased by lobbyist payola, they fight to win at any cost.
"But what they fought the other for,I could not well make out;'But everybody said,' quoth he,'It was a famous victory.' " /*

Hi Kel,
Very interesting. I get out of this a wish for the betterment of the lot of Sub-humans. We, the descendants of the damned, dispised and disenfranchised, whose forefathers were forceably shipped to this country, but not to receive the benefits listed above. The paradigm for us is; Not to Reason Why, Just Do and Die". Nothing has changed.

Kel,
Consider this, Taxes in some form or another, are a necessasary evil. But via the Federal Reserve and the IRS in their present modus of operandi, can/must be scrapped. Here's why; The Concept of "Love thy Neighbor as Thy Self", has never been explained exactly how it's to be done. By the proliferation of ignorance amongst the average person about Finance and how Money works, the few that do comprehend the concept, has used this knowledge to exploit those of their fellowmen to levels unheard of in the history of the Planet. Here is one solution that renders unto Ceasar what's Ceasar's and to the Sons of God, what's God's. This is one of three options; The other two are presented in the article:

Cut Wall Street Out! Own Your Own Bank
How States Can Finance Their Own Recovery
by Ellen Brown
She says this;
"Our money system is not what we have been led to believe. The creation of money has been "privatized," or taken over by a private money cartel. Except for coins, all of our money is now created as loans advanced by private banking institutions — including the private Federal Reserve. Banks create the principal but not the interest to service their loans. To find the interest, new loans must continually be taken out, expanding the money supply, inflating prices — and robbing you of the value of your money."
"Not only is virtually the entire money supply created privately by banks, but a mere handful of very big banks is responsible for a massive investment scheme known as "derivatives," which now tallies in at hundreds of trillions of dollars. The banking system has been contrived so that these big banks always get bailed out by the taxpayers from their risky ventures, but the scheme has reached its mathematical limits. There isn't enough money in the entire global economy to bail out the banks from a massive derivatives default today. When the investors realize that the "insurance" against catastrophe that they have purchased in the form of derivatives is worthless, they are liable to jump ship and bring the whole shaky edifice crashing down. "
"Web of Debt http://www.webofdebt.com/ unravels the deceptions in our money scheme and presents a crystal clear picture of the financial abyss towards which we are heading. Then it explores a workable alternative, one that was tested in colonial America and is grounded in the best of American economic thought, including the writings of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. If you care about financial security, your own or the nation's, you should read this book."

I like it!! Of course, if he had just stopped at the "right to life" concept, it would have been almost universally persuasive. It is ironic that those people who value a 3-month-old foetus (I count myself among them, although I STILL believe a woman the ruler of her own uterus) have so little regard for Iraqis or Afghanis or Vietnamese in their own country in their own damn homes. If human life is sacred or at least highly valued, then we must bring our soldiers back home NOW no matter what "mission" we might conjure up for them to do overseas. The fact remains that we are invaders and intruders, in violation of other nations' sovereignty and self-rule. As such, we are causing terrorism every day we stay on foreign soil. Besides, we know why we're really there. We're there to steal oil and to prop up all the governments that have been "persuaded" to let us have more than our fair share of oil at less than a fair price. |
