For all the newbies- here are some things to keep in mind when looking for treasure.

Repsect public and private properties.  You should never confuse the boundaries between the two. Watch noise levels at night so not to disturb the neighbors.

The medallion is always hidden on the ground under the snow. (when there is snow) You shouldn't waste your time and energy looking in blocked off areas such as flower beds or other areas that could be damaged. Common sense should tell you that the PP is not going to hide it in ways that will encourage destruction of our parks. It will be hidden so even a 4 year old has the potential of finding it.  The PP also wouldn't be foolish enough to hide it in garbage cans since city workers empty them regularly. So please don't dig through them and dump trash all over. YOU'RE WASTING YOUR TIME.

It is not going be anywhere potentially dangerous such as on lakes or ponds or hidden in electrical boxes or light fixtures. Again use common sense.

I have seen people do ridiculous things in pursuit of the medallion - dangerous, destructive, and downright dumb things.

If you want this wonderful tradition to continue for many years then we ALL need to make sure our public space is protected and the PP is not held liable. So if you see someone doing something destructive or dangerous, kindly inform them.  And if they won't listen - form a lynch mob. Cheesy

By keeping these things in mind, it will help you in finding the treasure because you won't be wasting your time and energy in tactics that will get you nowhere.

Happy hunting and good luck.

No not a cop. Just someone who wasted her first 2 hunts looking in all the wrong places.

After learning a lot of history about past hiding locations and clue explanations - I've learned where not to waste my time.

Wrong...wrong...wrong...the medallion does NOT have to be on the ground...many instances of it being in trees, on mailboxes or trash cans...forgive the novice way of thinking...if you want a REAL chance of finding the medallion...get off the internet!!! If you know St. Paul you have a chance...dont over analyze! If you REALLY know St. Paul, you dont need any "advice"

While you are correct it was once under a mailbox....1955. Nowadays that would be trouble since it's a federal offense to mess with any mailbox.

And  it has been hidden under a bridge-1959 and 1969.

It's never been up a tree but rather at the base of tree or under the roots or in hollow stumps or logs.

As I'm looking through my "Treasure Hunt History" book I'm not finding any year with a garbage can,  but in any account if you notice the YEARS that these occured - DECADES AGO.

Recent history, the last 20-30 years is has for the most part been at ground level.

My point was for people to have common sense when looking so as not to destroy public property and jeapordize the hunt.

It was in the branches of a bush at Highland on year as I was there when the boys found it. No ST Paul had it under a trash can I think 2 years ago. It was the only trash can in the city I didn't look under.
