 General -  Associates Q2 2006 Compensation

I just got the e-mail. Let the gnashing of teeth and wailing begin, especially from those selling electronics.

Lowest performance tier is now 4%. Sell less than 20 items and you should have chosen the basic plan.

Associates will now earn a flat 4% on consumer electronics items, regardless of unit volume.

I hate to ask a really stupid question, but where are the plan specifics posted?  I just got the email, which speaks in generalities about getting rid of "confusing link premiums" but no specifics relevant to those of us who (a) don't sell electronics and (b) only use direct links.  I came here to find the details but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

It sounds like they're doing away with the direct link premium, although it doesn't specifically say that. That would be a significant negative impact for me.

We are excited to present a new Associates compensation plan for Q2 2006. Using your feedback and suggestions, we simplified the Performance fee structure and made it easier for you to make more money!

I have a feeling not that many will be that excited.

Yes, it is an overall drop in commissions across the board, unless you are a low volume seller sending untargeted traffic to Amazon.

Terrible news, at least for me. More than 2/3 of my items are direct-links, so I'm going to lose between 0.5% and 1.0% on all non-electronics items over the course of a quarter.

And the electronics at just 4% - might as well bring back the $10 cap while you're at it Amazon. There are plenty of other places to promote if that is going to be the new rate. Buy.com is only 3% but they usually offer bonuses to get that up to 4% or more. Amazon was always my first option because of low prices and good-enough commission but not anymore. Probably 75% of my sales $ were in electronics. Not anymore.

Almost all items I have on my pages are direct links, HOWEVER, about 85% of my sales are from indrerect links. It means an increase for me.

Wow... this is bad.  I don't sell consumer electronics but I do ALL direct links and rely heavily on the direct link premium.

I fail to see how their new structure makes associates more money across the board when previously we could get 7.5% on sale #1 just from the direct link premium.   Now I'll have to sell 941 products to get that 7.5%.  Of course in the past, with the direct link premium, that 941st product might have been worth 9.5%...

So basically it's a 2% drop across the board. Way to take care of your associates Amazon.

Does anyone remember that a few quarters ago Amazon.com promised that they weren't going to make major changes in the commission structure any more?

Thanks.
David.

Using your feedback and suggestions ... Whose feedback and suggestions? If they really wanted to make it easier for associates to earn money, they would have changed their cookie length from a measly 24 hours. Even 48 hours probably would have made a huge difference.
