General -  Weird glitch on BookFinder.com

This may well be a problem on my own pc -- cookie or whatever -- but I thought it worth mentioning as it just might happen to someone else:

When checking a title on BookFinder just now I clicked on the price of a copy for more details (it happened to be offered through Abe) and was astonished to find myself on my shopping basket Abe account page! Not only that, but the book in question had been added to the basket! I quickly deleted the book from my basket and logged out of Abe. I then decided to experiment, searching for a random title and again clicking on the price of a copy available through Abe. Once again I was taken to my own shopping basket on my Abe account, and once again the book had been added to it, even though I was logged out. I have emailed Abe and BookFinder, of course. It's all extremely odd. I have accounts with other selling sites but it doesn't happen with any of the others I've tried.

Hi Barry - your post rang a bell that happened to me the other day but ignored it. Just tried here and the book does go to shopping basket - I am signed into Abe on the tabs though. I remember when it happened the other day it put me right off even looking. I guess other buyers might feel the same - last thing you want when you're just looking is baskets cluttered up with stuff:-(

Ah! A problem shared is a problem halved! I always close my tabs last thing, and I haven't got an Abe one operating today so it isn't that. Clearly they have a problem. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say. I've wasted maybe an hour on it when I.m trying to list some of the more expensive and time-consuming stuff. Grrr!

How annoying - I don't know why I overlooked it when it happened the other day - just didn't really sink in. I wonder if clearing cookies/cache whatever would stop it. Very annoying when all you want to do is look. Be a bit rough if when shopping every time you looked at an item the shopkeeper dashed over and shoved it in your basket!

Been doing that for weeks-without being logged into abe.

I doubt if it is a glitch, moe likely a deliberate encouragement to buy from abe.

Ah, Barry's problem is getting smaller every minute then. Someone probably got a bonus for thinking that one up:-(

If you take the attitude that it might just encourage a few more sales then it ceases to be any size of problem and instead becomes a small benefit.

That's all very well, but, although I can't remember for sure (I've only done it about 100 times!) I think you have to use your password to get into your basket. It may have security implications. Also, I don't think for one moment it's a form of 'inertia selling', it's clearly a glitch and a very annoying one and has to be fixed. I'll be thinking twice about buying any Abe stuff through Bookfinder until it's sorted, and good for sales that aint!

I like your analogy, but I think there is more to it than that. See my reply to John, above. I think everyone should complain, as I have.

No, you don't have to log in to get to your basket, only to get to check out, I've tried it from a PC that has no tracible connection to me so it isn't using stored passwords or anything.
