 General -  Tumbleweeds

“His whole future seemed suddenly to be unrolled before him; and passing down its endless emptiness he saw the dwindling figure of a man to whom nothing was ever to happen.”

I think Edith Wharton might have had my little Amazon shop in mind when she wrote that. No sales, no feedback, no bubble wrap, no packing tape, no packing, no money, no future...

Is it just me coping with the tumbleweeds or is everyone suffering sales paralysis?

Me too... except I think that Monday must have been an INSET day for schools since I got two (small) sales.

I was expecting a few to go during half term but nothing. However, I have sold everything I put on ebay (not books, games).

I'm just a small-time 'hobby' seller but for the last 18 months it's been around 2-4 or more books, CDs, DVDs a day.

In the last seven days I've sold ONE book for 1p! Packing and queueing at the Post office has been a big (and mostly hateful) part of my morning routine for so long that, now I'm not doing it, I miss it!

It can't just be down to the postal strike can it?

No. I think it's mostly down to the strike, but also partly down to people trying to save for Christmas instead of paying for it on their credit cards again.

You're probably right about that. It's making me very bored though! And all that trawling around charity shops is becoming a waste of time.

Actually, looking back through my sales, the last few months have been a bit dodgy. I guess little fellas like me are hit harder than the mega-sellers.

It is demoralising, isn't it? I was doing quite nicely, having started selling a couple of months ago (on Amazon - had been on eBay for years and got fed up) and was thinking that this was a nice way to make a few quid when......I stopped making even that much. I think we have to persevere and see what happens in the New Year. I am hoping that the postal workers will go back as Christmas looms large on the horizon and presents, food and booze need to be bought!

I sold just one book today. I knew I'd sell it because I'd just discovered that the front paste-down was coming adrift and the Law of Sod is quite clear on the matter. Ah well, out with the Spraymount.

Funnily enough, since I started this thread I've sold a book. It's a new book. Or at least it was when I listed it about 16 months ago.

As you said, the Law of Sod. (Actually, it still looks new to me, thank God!)

I usually sell 30-40 a week but have sold 17 today! So I am afraid that I am getting everyone elses today. Having said that I have been repricing and have found a few books that I have the cheapest copy of according to my open listings yet they do not show up under the actual listings so maybe there is a general problem.

Blimey! 17 today. I don't think I could handle that many! Good for you. Actually, since starting this thread I've sold three books. Problem is, by the time I send them I think I might actually make a loss on them!

So, one sale in a week, then three in an hour which will end up costing me more to send than I'll make on them. Amazon eh? Some you win, some you lose..
