General -  Confirm Shipment - Seller memo

I started using the 'Seller memo' area to inform my buyers about possible problems with the post, but then I spotted this in tiny writing underneath the text box:
-----------------------------------
"The information you enter here is for your use only and will not be displayed to the buyer."
-------------------------------------

Doh!

Amazon doesn't appear to keep any sort of record of the memo,as far as I can see, so what's the point of it?

If it is any consolation - I did the same thing on my first 5 transactions before I also read the small print....

If you hit 'save' it will keep that info. on the order page for future ref. ... for you only.

Thanks.

Seems like a rather pointless innovation - a bit like the new product review pop-up thingy that appeared earlier today.

I've used the 'memo' area a couple of times with 'problem sales', and made a note of email exchanges/dates there, it saves having to find all the relevant emails again. Even though we now have the message service, it helps keep everything on one page - simple and clear and compact. I think there is a constictive letter limit? But there's enough room to type the main gist of issues.

New Product Review Pop-Up? I don't think I've noticed/seen that yet?

This might sound a bit nerdy but I note what packaging I've used (I recycle as much as I can), in case a packet goes astray and needs describing on the RM claim form. A fellow-seller uses the box to note the postage for each book (and possibly the weight), probably for the same reason.

Good idea about the postage/weight.

They're on a standard POP for anyone who gets them.

What I'd really like to see on the Confirm When Shipped page is a text box so we can pass a customised message to the buyer.

Yes, I won't use it for that anyway.

Agree, especially as a few of us obviously thought that that was what the memo box was for anyway ! - wonder if they can change it to be visible to the buyer ? - I feel another suggestion coming on !!
