General -  Removing Book Search 'Excerpts'

Anybody know how to overide those annoying 'excerpts' Amazon have imposed at the bottom of book title searches. I'm trying to list some pre-isbn Penguin Classics. As an example, Ladder Of Perfection - Walter Hilton threw up 91 results, not one of which was my book on the first page. I've got many others with similar results, and its causing me a lot of grief.

As a side issue, can't Amazon give these acne-ridden pubescent dimwit copywriters something else to do other than make my life more difficult, like some porn to look at or something.

Cheers,

Brian.

There's another thread about this - 'search engine/excerpts'. Its damed annoying I agree, but I don't think there is a way to get around it? The US site has had this for quite a while and it was only a matter of time before we had it foisted onto us.

The only way to narrow results is to put other key words into search, eg. for your example add paperback (13 results) plus penguin (7 results)

I searched for "Ladder Of Perfection Walter Hilton" using the quick search bar and got just 14 results - all relevant.

One option if you're on the 'wrong search server' is to use advanced search and specify author and title.

You could also try the 'List Single Items for Sale' search page:

I tried it and got the same outcome as you.  14 results, all relevant.  Not an excerpt in sight.  Yet other users get totally different results when performing the same search.  This one I am prepared to attribute to different servers, although there could be other software-related explanations for it.

I also find it depends from where you start your search - there are so many different start points - ie.

  • Amazon's home page (as though a buyer),
  • from the 'Sell Your Stuff' box at top of most pages, just under the category tabs.
  • from the search bar just underneath that.
  • from your seller acct.page 'list single items'
  • from the A9 box at right after you have listed an item

Have a feeling there might be more also ! - but I do find I get different results from different searches.

That's interesting.  I normally do my searches using the Advanced Search facility within the Books category.  I have never seen a search result with excerpts.  When Jim posted his link to a search result that included excerpts, I got a completely different set of results.  Which makes me think it is possibly a hardware rather than software thing.

I always search as a buyer would - to see what chance they have of finding my item. In many cases they don't stand a chance of locating it! Quite depressing really!
