If you've ever had the displeasure of being in a room full of marketers who are trying to harness the raw awesomeness of the internet, then you know that "social networking" is the key concept mentioned over and over and over again until you want to stab. No longer content to let us roam the winding web roads all by our lonesome, everything must now be about sharing and friending and reaching out. When
Google Reader made "shared" feed selections truly shared items,
people wigged. But
a new RSS feed reader is out for public consumption, and the whole idea behind it is about showing off your stuff, or so says Louis Gray of Silicon Valley Blog:
Unlike every other RSS feed reader out there which I've tried, AssetBar
catapults the user experience out of a journey of isolation, and
instead to one of shared activity, commiseration, and comments. It's
like taking the power of Google Reader, and spreading over a veneer of FriendFeed.
Now, instead of wondering if a friend of mine has already read an
article I found interesting, I can share it (like in Google Reader), I
can rate it (thumbs down, informative or read now!) and I can post
public or private messages to it.
If you visit Gray's blog you can read more about this service and get an invite to try the service thanks to his handy little access code. You must upload an OPML file in order to register, so come prepared.
